Introduction
The SILK research network is composed of research units engaged in eye and vision research, in teaching and in utilizing innovations. The research network, including experts in various branches of medical, technical and natural sciences develops new methods in the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic diseases. Research interests focus on proteomics of the eye, imaging and modelling techniques of the eye, stem cell applications, cell culture models, medications, biodegradable polymers and implants.
The networking and infrastructure of SILK was promoted through the European Regional Development Fund supplied to the University of Tampere during the years 2009-2012. SILK aims to expand the existing national research network further and make it into an internationally significant actor in the field of eye and vision research.
